Kinky Koilie Me: Zumba Heather

How long have you been natural? I've been natural for a year now.

Did you transition? If so, for how long?  I transitioned for 5 months.

Why did you decide to go natural?  I became a Zumba instructor and I got tired of all the heat and chemicals and wanted a change.
Did you have any support?  My sisters were very supportive, but my mom was not happy with my decision.  Both my sisiters are natural so their support was enough for me to keep moving forward.

What is your current hair routine? I shampoo and deep condition weekly.
Any final thoughts?  Be patient and enjoy your hair, there is so much you can do with it.  Have fun and be happy!!

My Hair Today

After trying the bentonite clay I decided to do something different with my hair rather than my regular wash & go.  I sprayed my hair with my giovanni direct leave-in and water mix, added some Bee Mine Deja's Hair Milk, and sealed with coconut oil.  I smoothed the front of my hair and added some eco styler gel and tied it down.  After about an hour I added some twists to the back.

A friend of mine bet me to do this style or pay her $2.00.  I didn't mind paying the $2.00 but I didn't want to lose the bet.  So here are my results:

Bentonite Clay

I've been hearing lots of good things about bentonite clay from many naturals on youtube and numerous natural hair blogs.  So, I decided to try it for the first time.  I followed the directions and decided to just mix it with water only.  I mixed it as best I could and this is what it looked like.

My first thought was that this mix looks like mud.  But, oh well, it's suppose to be good for the scalp and hair and pulls all the impurities and what not....   So, I then began to apply it to my hair and scalp.  The process was messy but I got it done.

I left the mix in for about 20 minutes (I did not want it to dry up) then rinsed.  I applied a deep conditioner and detangled with my wide tooth comb and denman brush.  My hair felt soft and moisturized after the whole process.

I liked this product.  I may be adding it to my regiman.

One Year Natural

This month is my natural anniversary month.  It marks one year of me being natural.  I can remember when I first cut my hair and how I was so not ready to let anyone see me that way.  I did not know what to do with my hair, so I covered it with wigs and braided with extensions.  I did just about anything to hide my hair.  It wasn't till about June 2010 that I decided to stop hiding my hair and wore my first puff.  I was so nervous about how I looked with short hair.

I was very happy at the response I got.  People kept telling me how great i looked with short hair and how healthy and moisturized my hair looked.  I got a few that asked "Why did you cut off all that pretty hair?"  I'm proud of my progress.  I love my natural hair.

Greetings

Welcome to my blog.  Over the last year I have become very obsessed about my hair and very passionate about fitness.  I want to share my hair experience and fitness knowledge.

I decided to go natural in August of 2009.  I transitioned for 5 months and did the big chop in January 2010. I have been natural now for a year now and I love it.

I became an AFAA certified group fitness instructor in March 2010 and currently teach Zumba classes at numerous locations.  I became a certified Zumba instructor in October 2009 and have been teaching ever since.
